Prof. Dr. Adnan Ömerustaoğlu is a distinguished Turkish philosopher, educator, and academic leader serving as Professor of Philosophy and Dean of the Faculty of Education at Biruni University, where he also leads research and academic development initiatives in the social sciences.
Education and Early Career
He graduated from the Department of Philosophy at Atatürk University Faculty of Arts and Sciences in 1985. He completed his Master’s degree in 1995 with a thesis on “Logic-Mathematics Relation in Salih Zeki” and earned his PhD in 1999 with a dissertation on “Thomas Kuhn’s Philosophy of Science.”
Academic Progression and Leadership Roles
Prof. Dr. Ömerustaoğlu began his academic career as a lecturer at Atatürk University in 1994, where he advanced through academic ranks. He later served as faculty member at Sakarya University and became a professor in 2010. He then moved into leadership roles, including founding academic units and chairing departments of philosophy and educational sciences at various universities.
In 2012, he was appointed founding dean of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences at Üsküdar University, where he also established research centers dedicated to philosophical inquiry. In 2016, he joined Biruni University as Dean of the Faculty of Education, a position he continues to hold. During his deanship, he initiated the Center for Critical Thinking Research and Practice to promote interdisciplinary scholarship and foster critical inquiry among students and faculty.

Prof. Dr. Ömerustaoğlu’s research spans philosophy of science, epistemology, philosophy of education, social philosophy, history of science, and critical thinking. He has authored numerous articles, book chapters, and conference presentations, and his book “Epistemology: Karl Popper’s Critical Rationalism” is recognized for its contributions to modern philosophical discourse.

He has organized and chaired multiple national and international conferences, symposia, and academic panels. He is a member of editorial boards, review committees, and advisory panels for scholarly journals.
