Health Sciences

Today, factors such as technology, advances in health sciences, economics, urbanization, industrialization, and lifestyles influence societies as well as their health needs. There is an increasing demand for higher-quality healthcare services delivered to the community. The need for a qualified healthcare workforce is steadily growing. The success of healthcare services depends on the effective use of changes in the healthcare system to improve standards of diagnosis, treatment, and patient care, as well as on the proper training of all members of the healthcare team, including physicians, nurses, midwives, dietitians, physiotherapists, audiologists, and other health professionals. Educating competent healthcare professionals is of key importance in improving the overall health level of society.

For this purpose, Biruni University, which provides education in all fields of health, includes the Faculty of Health Sciences (SABIF) within its academic structure. SABIF consists of a total of 11 departments: Nutrition and Dietetics, Child Development, Speech and Language Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy (English), Midwifery, Nursing, Nursing (English), Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation (English), and Audiology.

The aim of our faculty is to encourage students to become scientists by providing a scientific and socially supportive environment, and to contribute to their development as well-equipped professionals who can be employed worldwide by offering education programs comparable to those of developed countries in an increasingly globalized world. By further strengthening the existing potential of our students-who will play an effective role in shaping the future of our country-we seek to educate individuals who are capable of overcoming challenges, producing constructive and creative solutions, living in harmony with life, and becoming healthy, self-confident, successful, and happy individuals.

Year of Graduation: 2025
Current Institution / Position: Beylikdüzü Mavi Umutlar Special Education and Rehabilitation Center
Distinguished Achievement / Story: Hello, I am Büşra Akgün. I graduated as an Honor Student from Biruni University’s Department of Speech and Language Therapy in 2025. Biruni, one of Türkiye’s leading health-focused universities, provided me not only with professional knowledge but also with a strong communication network. Throughout four years, my roles as a department representative and club president allowed me to maintain an academically and socially active student life. The strong bonds I built with my professors made this journey even more meaningful. One of the most valuable opportunities offered by my university was the Erasmus+ program, through which I completed an internship abroad, gaining insight into therapeutic approaches in different cultures and enriching my professional perspective. I am currently working actively at a rehabilitation center. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to my esteemed professors who supported me throughout this journey with their knowledge, understanding, and encouragement.
Short Inspirational Message for Students: Sometimes, taking just one step is enough to discover what you are capable of. When I started university, I only hoped to learn my profession, but the opportunities I encountered allowed me to develop myself in many different areas. Clubs, projects, Erasmus… all became part of my professional identity. If you are at the beginning of your journey, be brave, participate, ask, and try—because this is how you truly discover yourself.

Short Inspirational Message for Students: Through the profession of midwifery, you become an invisible bridge that transforms a mother’s anxiety into peace at the most fragile and miraculous moment of human life, and turns a baby’s first cry into the beginning of life. This profession requires not only knowledge, but also intuition; not only technique, but compassion and empathy. Starting each day with the thought, “Today I may touch the beginning of a life,” is a responsibility and an honor granted to very few people in the world. The journey of midwifery can be challenging and exhausting; yet witnessing a baby’s arrival into the world takes away all your fatigue. Grow your knowledge, keep your curiosity alive, be patient, develop yourself in academia, and nurture seeds of compassion in your heart. Because being a midwife, above all, means having a great heart—and the stronger you equip yourself, the more lives you touch and make more beautiful. Every step you take on this journey will add value to life. The world will be a safer place through your touch.

Graduate Education: Biruni University – Graduate School of Education, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation (Master’s Degree with Thesis, Ongoing)
Year of Graduation: Biruni University – Faculty of Health Sciences, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation (Bachelor’s Degree), 2024
Current Status (Graduate Program): Master’s Degree with Thesis – Ongoing
Current Institution / Position: Biruni University
Distinguished Achievement / Story: I began my journey as a candidate physiotherapist with a strong focus on gaining both academic and clinical experience at an early stage, aiming to be productive and add value in every environment I am part of. My university years were shaped not only by academic success, but also by active involvement in research projects, responsibilities undertaken in departmental organizations, and visible participation in scientific events. During both my undergraduate and graduate studies, I adapted to the academic world early on by taking part in accreditation processes, serving on various committees, and assuming a strong role in student representation within the department. My work focusing on upper extremity rehabilitation and advanced assessment technologies accelerated my academic development while also contributing to a versatile professional profile. Today, I continue to advance this journey—where I can develop both my clinical reasoning skills and research culture—guided by discipline, curiosity, productivity, and a strong sense of responsibility.
Short Inspirational Message for Students: Paying attention to details is the quietest yet most powerful way to make a difference. Every small step forms the foundation of a larger structure that reaches into the future. The confidence you have in yourself, the care you show toward your knowledge, and every moment you take responsibility will elevate you not just one step, but one level higher in your profession. Physiotherapy requires viewing the human being not only through muscles, joints, or function, but as a whole. Life is much the same—just like an assessment, when courage, patience, curiosity, and discipline come together, a strong whole emerges. Remember: every step you take today, every effort you make, and every detail you learn will shape not only your profession, but also your future.

Year of Graduation: 2019
Current Institution / Position: T.C. Biruni University – Lecturer
Distinguished Achievement / Story: I continued my academic career without interruption at the university where I completed my undergraduate education and was accepted into both the master’s and doctoral programs. My curiosity for research, which began during my student years, enabled me to prepare a TÜBİTAK 1001 project together with my academic advisor. Currently, I am conducting several TÜBİTAK 2209 projects with my students. Becoming part of a team that contributes to scientific production in a short period of time has been one of the most valuable steps in my academic journey. Working with students as an academician at the faculty I graduated from is a great source of pride for me, as it contributes both to my personal development and to the scientific structure of the department. I am also very happy to progress in the field I desire, as it provides me with renewed motivation every working day.
Short Inspirational Message for Students: I once sat in the same seats you are sitting in now. I walked the same corridors and experienced similar moments of excitement and happiness. Today, I can tell you this: being hardworking is not enough—keep your curiosity and desire to learn alive by focusing on your interests. Ask questions, do research, and trust yourself in the challenges you will face on the path to success. Be brave. In academia or in life, doors often open not on the day you say “I’m ready,” but on the day you take a step forward. Great and meaningful achievements begin with a small spark of courage. And remember—you are the future.
