Internal Research Funding & Support

  • Biruni University Scientific Research Projects (BAP)
Biruni University provides internal research funding through its Scientific Research Projects (BAP) framework. Academic staff and researchers can apply for institutional project grants to support scientific studies conducted within the university. These funds aim to encourage high-quality research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the development of innovative projects.
  • Scientific Meeting Participation and Travel Support
The university offers financial support for participation in national and international scientific meetings, congresses, symposiums, and workshops. This support helps cover expenses such as registration fees, travel, and accommodation, enabling researchers to disseminate their findings and strengthen academic networks.

  • External Competitive Grants and Fellowship Programs
  • TÜBİTAK Research and Fellowship Programs
Biruni University actively supports applications to national funding schemes provided by TÜBİTAK. These include competitive research grants and fellowship programs such as TÜBİTAK 2232 International Fellowship Programs for Outstanding and Young Researchers, which aim to attract internationally experienced researchers and support cutting-edge research projects in Türkiye.

  • Student-Oriented Research Funding
  • Biruni Scientific Research and Project Fellowship
This program encourages undergraduate and graduate students to take part in scientific research projects under the supervision of academic staff. It provides students with early research experience and supports the development of research skills and academic careers.
  • Junior Scientist Training Programs
Biruni University offers research-oriented training programs designed to introduce students to scientific thinking and laboratory culture. These programs support students’ involvement in ongoing research projects and prepare them for future funding applications and academic pathways.

  • International and Mobility Funding
  • Erasmus+ Research and Mobility Opportunities
Through the Erasmus+ program, Biruni University supports student and academic mobility for education, training, and research purposes. These opportunities provide funding for international exchanges, joint research activities, and collaboration with partner institutions abroad.

  • Industry Collaboration and Innovation-Based Funding

    Research Quick Start Guide

    Research Quick Start Guide

    1) Start with a clear, fundable research plan
Define your research question, objectives, methodology, timeline, team roles, and a realistic budget (including equipment, consumables, participant costs, and publication fees if relevant). If your work involves industry collaboration or commercialization potential, document the expected outputs early (datasets, prototypes, software, publications, patents).

    2) Use Biruni’s R&D / application channels early
For institutional processes, follow Biruni’s internal R&D structures and forms (e.g., Bir-ArGe forms and project pathways) and submit your initial request through the relevant portal/unit as required. Biruni’s R&D ecosystem and forms are accessible via Bir-ArGe (including project-related forms).

    3) If you are applying via an R&D portal: know the typical flow
A common workflow is: pre-application → preliminary evaluation meeting decision → activation email + portal access → full application → reviewer evaluation/approval → contract signing → status activation → official activity letters prepared for institutions. This is summarized in the “Application Process & Start of Activities” document.

    4) Collecting data
If your study involves humans/participants, patient data, surveys, interviews, biological samples, or any identifiable personal data, obtain the appropriate ethics approvals before recruitment or data collection. Biruni provides ethics committee application forms and documentation checklists on its ethics pages.

    5) Protect intellectual property before public disclosure
If your work could be patentable, avoid publishing/posting/talking publicly about the invention until you’ve aligned with your institutional IP process and (if appropriate) filed. Public disclosure can destroy novelty and make an invention unpatentable (unless a specific legal “grace period” applies).

    6) Follow Biruni’s invention disclosure & IP pathway (quick version)
Typical steps include: (i) R&D ideas / project outputs → (ii) submitting an invention disclosure form to the specialist/unit → (iii) checking whether the application is procedurally suitable → (iv) if “yes,” preparing a prior research/preliminary search report → (v) IP Rights Board (FSMH) evaluation → (vi) ownership decision → (vii) collaboration with patent offices → (viii) patent filing. (If “no,” missing elements are shared with inventors and a “free invention” decision may apply.)

    7) Use the official Biruni “Invention Disclosure Form” and contact route
Biruni publishes an “Invention Disclosure Form (EK-1)” and indicates submitted.

    8) Do a prior-art search early (save time and budget)
Before investing heavily in patent drafting, run a preliminary search (keywords, classifications, similar solutions). Turkish Patent and Trademark Office resources include patent/utility model guidance and search/tracking tools.

    9) Publish and disseminate responsibly
Plan your publication route (journal/conference), authorship rules, acknowledgements (funders/units), and data/material availability statements. If you intend to patent, coordinate timing so filing happens before publication or public presentation. (WIPO explicitly highlights confidentiality before filing as essential.)

    10) Where to get help at Biruni
For IP/patents/utility models and commercialization support, Biruni’s TTO channels describe services that support academics and companies in IP topics (patent, utility model, trademark, design) and related guidance. For research administration and forms, Bir-ArGe pages provide institutional resources.
