Deans Message
The Turkish Dentistry Program at Biruni University Faculty of Dentistry began in the 2014–2015 Academic Year, followed by the launch of the English Dentistry Program in the 2018–2019 Academic Year. Our faculty proudly graduated its first cohort in 2019. We firmly believe that our graduates begin their professional careers equipped with comprehensive theoretical and clinical knowledge, well-versed in innovations in dentistry, confident, ethically grounded, capable of lifelong learning, and distinguished by strong communication and empathy skills—ready to make a meaningful difference in their profession.
In the first three years of our curriculum, students receive basic medical sciences and core dentistry courses, alongside preclinical practical training designed to develop professional skills. Preclinical practice courses are conducted in fully equipped Prosthodontics and Phantom Laboratories, where students are trained in procedures before clinical application. In the 4th and 5th years, students perform diagnosis and treatment on patients in our state-of-the-art clinics, under the supervision of experienced faculty members. Beyond foundational and clinical knowledge, our faculty fosters learning and application skills and provides an environment that encourages scientific research, enabling students to achieve ideal professional competence. Through faculty-led activities and projects with student participation, we also cultivate communication skills, social responsibility, and professional solidarity.
Our graduates may establish their own private practices or clinics, or be employed in public or private oral and dental health institutions. Those wishing to pursue postgraduate education may, in accordance with ÖSYM regulations, sit for the Dental Specialization Examination (DUS) to receive specialist training in their field of interest, or apply to doctoral programs at state or foundation universities. Our faculty currently offers doctoral education in the Departments of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Endodontics, Orthodontics, Periodontology, and Prosthodontics. Efforts are ongoing to expand doctoral education across all departments, and specialty training programs will commence in the near future.
The mission of the Faculty of Dentistry is to contribute highly qualified professionals to the oral and dental healthcare workforce in our country. Our faculty stands out with its respected, dynamic academic staff who possess extensive national and international professional experience. With a contemporary educational approach that supports research, scientific progress, and achievement in a free and critical environment, our academic team is confident and determined to elevate our faculty—within a short time—into a respected, leading institution that shapes science at national and international levels.
As Biruni University Faculty of Dentistry, in addition to preparing our graduates for the dental profession with distinctive and recognizable competencies, we aim to deliver the highest quality oral and dental healthcare to our patients through a service philosophy focused on raising national and international standards. Equipped with the latest technologies, our clinics and laboratories are dedicated to providing the best possible care. Recognizing that success is a team effort and a long journey, I extend my sincere thanks to all our valued academic and administrative colleagues for their dedication and support.
Guided by the legacy of reason and science entrusted to us by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, I look forward to achieving many more successes together.
